We are on a learning curve at Biruk's Egg Project. From very small beginnings and the sponsorship of 10 children to our current sponsorship of 75 children and college students, we recognize that our work has to change along with whatever is going on in Ethiopia and in our world.
While regular sponsorship provides children with clothes, a school uniform, school supplies, and a food allowance, we have realized that other help is also needed. At times of drought, Biruk's Egg Project has provided cooking oil and teff flour for making injera. During the COVID-19 pandemic, some of our funding supplied families with hygiene supplies. One of our less successful projects was buying laying hens for the children and their families, which the bird flu fairly quickly wiped out.
Still, we are learning. We have expanded our funds to not only cover aid, but to provide more far-reaching development. The egg project began to invest in providing micro loans to mothers so they could start their own small businesses. Most recently, Biruk's Egg Project was able to invest in the whole Wuchale community by building and supplying a publicly accessible maternal clinic.
Our goals are for the development of Wuchale, the expansion of business, and the success of its families to be so great that Biruk's Egg Project is no longer needed. We request your prayers and your continued support as work continues to be done in this town which means so much to us.
